Message From The Governor

Snowmobiling in Maine at Mount Katahdin and South Twin Lake.

Message From The Governor about Maine Snowmobiling:

“Maine truly is a unique place to snowmobile, with over 13,000 miles of groomed snowmobile trails that stretch from York County all the way to Fort Kent. No other state can match the miles of trails with the variety and beauty of Maine’s woods and waters.

Snowmobiling is just one of the many ways that you can enjoy the woods and wilds of this wonderful state, and each year, more and more people are discovering the wonders of winter while snowmobiling in Maine. The growth in Maine’s snowmobile industry is amazing, and in turn, it has made it safer and more enjoyable.

Money collected from registration fees funds is funneled back to the local snowmobile clubs where it is used for trail grooming and maintenance as well as new trail development. A portion of your fee helps fund educational programs for new snowmobile riders. It also helps fund snowmobile patrol efforts by the Maine Warden Service. Registrations fuel the growth in the sport, and help to make it safer. Snowmobiling itself contributes over $300 million annually to the state’s economy.

Please remember, that along with that growth now comes increased responsibility for riders. You are not the only one out there enjoying the trails. Thousands of others enjoy the trails each weekend, so remember to share the trails. Ride Right and Ride Safe, and enjoy yourself.

John E. Baldacci,
Governor”  ~  http://www.maine.gov/ifw/atv-snowmobile/snowmobile/laws-rules.html
